# Finluency Frequently Asked Questions — What It Does

> Everything you need to know about Finluency: how it works, what transaction types it tracks, who it's for, and how to request early access.

Finluency is built for solopreneurs and small business owners who need a clear, transaction-level picture of where their cash stands today — and where it's headed. If you're new to Finluency or just evaluating whether it's the right tool for you, the questions below cover the most important things to know.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is Finluency an accounting platform?">
    No. Finluency is not an accounting or bookkeeping platform. You won't find double-entry ledgers, profit-and-loss statements, or compliance reporting here. Instead, Finluency focuses entirely on forward-looking cash flow visibility — helping you understand your current liquidity and model how your balances will evolve over time. If you need tax filing or financial reporting, a dedicated accounting tool is the right fit for that job. Finluency is the layer that shows you what's coming.

  <Accordion title="How is Finluency different from budgeting apps?">
    Most budgeting apps are built around categorizing what you've already spent. They look backward — grouping past transactions into categories so you can review where your money went. Finluency takes the opposite approach. Rather than summarizing history, it models your future balance at the transaction level, factoring in what's pending, what's scheduled to recur, what you've budgeted, and what you expect. You get a running forward view of your cash position, not a retrospective breakdown of last month's coffee spending.

  <Accordion title="How is Finluency different from a spreadsheet?">
    Spreadsheets can model cash flow, but they require constant manual upkeep. Every new transaction means another row to add, another formula to check, and another opportunity for a data-entry mistake to silently throw off your numbers. Finluency keeps your view current automatically by centralizing your connected accounts and applying your recurring and forecasted transactions in real time. The result is a forward-looking cash flow picture that's always up to date — without you having to maintain it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Finluency replace my bank app?">
    No — and it's not designed to. Your bank app is the authoritative source for your account activity, and Finluency connects to it rather than replacing it. Think of Finluency as the forward-looking layer that your bank app doesn't offer. Your bank shows you what has happened; Finluency shows you what's happening and what's coming. The two tools complement each other.

  <Accordion title="What are the five transaction states?">
    Finluency tracks every transaction through one of five states, which together give you a complete picture of your cash flow — past, present, and future:

    * **Posted** — Transactions that have fully cleared your account. These are confirmed and final.
    * **Pending** — Transactions that have been initiated but haven't cleared yet. They're on their way, but not settled.
    * **Recurring** — Scheduled transactions that repeat on a defined cadence, such as rent, subscriptions, or loan payments. Finluency uses these to project your future balance automatically.
    * **Budget** — Planned spending allocations you've defined. Budget transactions represent amounts you intend to spend, letting you model the impact on your balance before you actually spend.
    * **Forecasted** — Expected future transactions that you add manually or that Finluency projects based on your patterns. These give you visibility into anticipated income and expenses that aren't yet recurring or budgeted.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is the difference between pending and posted transactions?">
    A **pending** transaction has been initiated — for example, a card charge that your bank has authorized — but it hasn't fully cleared yet. Your balance reflects it, but the transaction can still change or, in rare cases, be reversed. A **posted** transaction has fully cleared and settled. It's confirmed, final, and locked into your account history. In Finluency, posted transactions represent ground truth, while pending transactions are real but still in motion.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What are forecasted transactions?">
    Forecasted transactions represent income or expenses you expect in the future that aren't captured by your existing recurring or budget entries. You can add them manually — for example, a one-time client payment you're expecting next month, or a planned equipment purchase — and Finluency incorporates them into your forward balance model. This lets you stress-test your cash position against realistic future scenarios, not just scheduled obligations.

  <Accordion title="Can I connect both personal and business accounts?">
    Yes — connecting both personal and business accounts is a core feature of Finluency. Many solopreneurs and small business owners manage cash flow across both, and Finluency is designed with that reality in mind. You can view all your accounts together in one dashboard or focus on a subset, giving you a unified picture of your total cash position.

  <Accordion title="What types of accounts does Finluency support?">
    Finluency supports the account types most commonly used by individuals and small businesses, including:

    * **Checking accounts** — Your primary transactional accounts
    * **Savings accounts** — Reserve and buffer funds
    * **Credit cards** — Balances and upcoming payments
    * **Lines of credit** — Revolving credit facilities

    <Note>
      Supported account types may expand as Finluency develops. If you have a specific account type you'd like to connect, share that feedback through the early access program.
